Who needs an ETA? Nationals of countries that can visit the UK without a visa, including all EU countries, the US, Canada, Australia, Japan and the Gulf states. British and Irish citizens, and people with a valid UK visa or residence status, do not need one.
If your nationality needs a UK visa (for example Turkey, India or China), you apply for a Standard Visitor visa instead.
Price and validity £20 per person (since 8 April 2026; it was £16 before). Valid for 2 years or until your passport expires. Stay up to 6 months per visit, with multiple visits allowed. A new passport means a new ETA. How to apply Apply in the official UK ETA app or on GOV.UK. You need your passport, a photo of your face and a few answers. A decision usually comes within 3 working days, so do not leave it to the last minute.
Frequently asked questions Do EU citizens need a UK ETA? Yes. Since 2 April 2025 European visitors need an ETA, and it has been strictly enforced since 25 February 2026.

Can I work with an ETA? No. It covers tourism, family visits and some short business activities, not employment.
